PHENOMENA! FML! POWERS! NO LIFE!
Welcome back to the JINXWORLD newsletter!
PHENOMENA!
Those of you have been following along know that PHENOMENA is a big graphic novel series we make from Abrams Comic Arts.
Phenomena is such an important and new experience for me that every time someone said something nice to us about the first two books — in stores now — I was blown away. It’s so scary putting new things out in the world that you feel so passionately about.
While you were reading Volume Two, André Lima Araújo and I were hard at work on finishing VOLUME THREE! With pre-orders now available, here is the cover in full!
Like the other two volumes, its a stunning wraparound. This cover introduces a plethora of brand new characters to the Phenomena universe. This is a genuine Earth-shattering conclusion to this first epic storyline.
Making these graphic novels with André is one of the highlights of my entire creative life. It feels like all the lessons learned from all the storylines of all the other books we’ve ever done coming together here to make a bigger statement about things that we’ve never had the chance to do before.
These pages are beautiful. I can’t wait for you to have the entire series in front of you.
FML!
Everything I’m about to tell you is great news.
Kelly Sue DeConnick has a brand-new creator owned series with her longtime Captain Marvel collaborator David Lopez. It’s called FML. I have read it. It is great. It is everything you’re expecting from Kelly after having read Pretty Deadly, Bitch Planet and Wonder Woman: Historia, except she has challenged herself in every conceivable way.
It’s coming VERY soon from our home, Dark Horse Comics.
Here’s a very fun graphic they made basically begging you to pre-order it. But they don’t need to. It’s great. Just pre-order it with confidence, because they’ve never let you down before.
POWERS!
Speaking of the cutie pies at Dark Horse, it is officially the 25th ANNIVERSARY of the debut of our Eisner award-winning cops-and-capes epic POWERS. It’s been 25 years since we released the first issue. And if you were there, you have a hug coming to you if you haven’t gotten it yet.
Powers’ 25th anniversary is also a celebration of my long friendship and partnership with co-creator Mike Oeming. And because of that we are going to use this time and space both in this newsletter and all over Dark Horse to celebrate. We’re gonna have a big announcement coming very soon.
The entire Powers library, like every other Jinxworld book, is available at darkhorse.com and anywhere good books are sold.
NO LIFE!
Some things I have been enjoying…
I am so enamored with the passion Julia Louis Dreyfus has for Veep still. I found this director’s commentary-like conversation absolutely fascinating.
The algorithm sent me this amazing super cut of Human Giant MTV Takeover from 2007. This is like a petri dish of what comedy would be like today. It’s a lot of people doing rough drafts of things that are very famous now.
I can’t express to you how much I love Peaky Blinders. I know a lot of you have been yelling at me to watch the show for years. I am right in the middle of it and I love it with my whole heart. Thank you for the recommendations.
Everything Comedy Bang Bang has been on fire this summer. The paywall material is exceptional. Bobby Moynihan’s ridiculous Batman podcast is one of my favorite things.
For those of you who are not behind the pay wall the episode above was particularly delightfully insane.
And if you’re looking for some comic fun that does not have mine or my friend’s name on it, I just had the privilege of reading this, and I couldn’t recommend it any higher as this in-house Image graphic points out.
Ok, that’s it.
I have been determined to keep these newsletters short and tight. For more of this, just wait for the new newsletter or join us at the Discord at the POWERS LEVEL of jinxworld.com, or come find me on Instagram/Threads or Blue Sky (links below), and nowhere else.
Thanks for supporting our crazy projects. Thanks for supporting my friends’ projects. Thank you for supporting comic books in any way that you do.
